happy international workers' day!

in solidarity with workers worldwide (and as a request from my father), i designed a hammer-and-sickle. viewers are urged to remember what this emblem originally meant, and not what it came to signify.

i've always been fascinated with color-changing and geometric designs, so alot of my work is exactly that. geometric and multi-colored. this is a new one, a double-star. technically, it's potentially infinitely recursive, but there'd be no point since beyond this level you wouldn't be able to see the stars, which would from this point onward be inside the smallest star. if anyone can tell me if this has been done before, i'd greatly appreciate it.

being part of the collective publication "imagiro" forces me to revisit old designs and diagram them. many of my designs are merely derivatives of the bird base, a base which has seen its better days as far as popularity goes, but whose possibilites are not yet exhausted. when i was 12, i modified a bird base to create something which i call the "mask base", after the first model i created from it. it is a relatively easy way to extract eight short points and four long points from a base that previously only had one short point and four long ones. to the best of my knowledge i am the only one using this base. not long ago, i developed an insect from this base (the points are well suited to insects, even if their placement is a bit awkward). currently, many designers are exploring the subject matter of insects in an increasingly realistic way. this is most interesting, but distressing for those folders (like myself) less technically inclined than the top designers of this time period. this insect (which is probably a moth) is a throwback to the days when origami was simpler and more symbolic, and complex creators were not frowned upon when their work was not frequently mistaken for the real thing. the diagram will be published here in mid-March, after the next imagiro issue has come out.

this segment of the antiblog will have bits and pieces relating to my origami and paperfolding interest. i have been doing origami since age 4, and i have created a number of original pieces, although i don't consider myself primarily a "creator". photos and diagrams of those models will be available soon. for now, here is a photo of one of my favorite models, a unicorn by satoshi kamiya, which i folded out of wyndstone marble artisan paper.
