what is an antiblog?

well, i don't know. do a google search and you'll find quite a number of "antibloggers", most of whom have no ideological connection to the name other than the teenage perception of "anti" as a cool prefix. there are a few exceptions, folks who are doing things in a similar vein for similar reasons. i don't profess to define an antiblog, but i will define this antiblog.

this antiblog was created by hand, without the use of automated tools either web-based or program-based, as a backlash against the hordes of mindless drivel-spewing drones who pollute the web with their endless stories of their mundane existence. and they do all this simply because they can -- and presumably they think someone out there thinks it's interesting.

when i learned to use the web, writing webpages was something you had to learn to do. it was a skill, something that some people excelled at and some people didn't. well, that era is gone. nowadays, any bozo on dialup can sign up for a free blog and add his or her "unique" perspective to the web with no skill and no creativity whatsoever. i'm not saying that the blog format is inherently evil or wrong -- it has been used to great effect by many users -- but it is responsible for taking an entire generation (or two) of web users and stunting their intellectual growth by making it so they don't have to learn to code websites. RSS feeds make it so that all content is delivered on a silver platter and the user doesn't have to remember to check this, that or the other website for the latest updates.

we have become a nation of passive consumers, self-indulgent to a fault, ignorant of history, heritage, or tradition. change does not inherently imply progress. process is at least as important as form and function.

this page, in format and process if not in content, is a throwback to the time when i learned to hand-code web pages. it is made in the format of a blog because the format has some inherent strengths, but it is "coded" in a text editor. it has no backend scripts. it will never show up on your RSS feed. it doesn't accept comments. it isn't updated daily unless i have something worth posting. it is not a diary, it is not a journal -- live or dead. it is not an outpouring of my soul unto the uncaring masses. it is a site where interested people can see what i have been making in my spare time, and occasionally what i have been thinking about. it is made as much for my own benefit as anyone else's. it is made to prove that the bloggers' exclusionary tactics have not permeated the entire web, and that the simplicity of tradition is still valid.

if you've made it this far, you clearly have more than a 30 second attention span. welcome.
